Bellinzona

The fortress of Bellinzona, UNESCO World Heritage Site

Bellinzona

Just a few kilometres away from Lugano stands one of Ticino’s main attractions: the castles of Bellinzona, today on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

These medieval fortifications that dominate Bellinzona are one of 13 Swiss World Heritage sites. About twenty minutes from Lugano, it is possible to savour an atmosphere of times gone by visiting the castles or strolling among the stalls of the traditional saturday market.
