Poetry by Ugo Canonica

The culture, events, sports and tourism office of the Capriasca municipality offers a cultural review for everyone in various places in Capriasca.

On Sunday 6 October at 20:30, the review will end in Bidogno with the poetry of Ugo Canonica.

Ugo Canonica (1918-2003), originally from Bidogno, was born in Willisau (Lucerne) and died in Lugano. An author of short stories and poems, he trained as a teacher and was Director of the Professional Centre for Arts and Crafts in Lugano-Trevano and later a school inspector. He made his poetry debut in 1959, participating in the dialect competition organised by the magazine 'Il Cantonetto'. In the course of his career, in which he alternated writing in dialect with writing in language, two encounters influenced him the most; the first with Remo Beretta, the second with the new poets, with their new poetry (Sanguineti, Erba, Saba, Quasimodo, Montale). Both experiences contributed to the development of an increasingly essential style. In the field of fiction, we highlight his two autobiographical works: 'La voce del padre' (1945) and 'I falò di Santa Brigida' (1954).
