La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi marks the return of lyric opera to the LAC. Verdi’s masterpiece will be performed under conductor Maestro Markus Poschner in an altogether new production by director Carmelo Rifici. One of Verdi’s most celebrated operas, La Traviata is based on La dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas (fils). The story deals with the love between Violetta, a worldly, jaded woman and Alfredo, her passionate admirer. It is only with Alfredo that Violetta discovers she is in love for the first time but standing in the way of their union is Germont, Alfredo’s father, and the illness that leads Violetta to an inexorable death.
The production features internationally renowned Ticinese ensembles like the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana and the Choir of the Radiotelevisione svizzera, along with great stars of the opera world like soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu in the role of Violetta Valéry, tenor Airam Hernández in the role of Alfredo Germont.
