The Peninsula’s allure

Hiking Trail

A proposal that allows you to reach the south side of this intriguing and varied peninsula, to visit the scenic San Grato Park, to continue towards Alpe Vicania until Morcote.

San Salvatore – Carona

A proposal that allows you to reach the south side of this intriguing and varied peninsula, at the foot of Mount Tamaro, but on the opposite side of the city. You initially descend from the summit along a path that winds pleasantly through the woods.

The intermediate stage at Ciona has a grotto and there is a postbus stop here, which connects Lugano and Carona. From here, a dirt road through the woods leads to the characteristic Carona, whose centre still retains its charm.

Carona – San Grato Park

A 15-minute walk from Carona you can visit the scenic San Grato Park with its many attractions, a stop along the way that is well worth the effort.

San Grato Park – Alpe Vicania – Morcote

Continue towards Alpe Vicania where there is a restaurant located in an idyllic area (check opening days/times), hike through the woods and along a small dirt road. Shortly after Alpe Vicania the path descends to Morcote down a staircase of around 1200 steps.

Morcote is a village that in the past has been awarded the prize for Switzerland's most beautiful village. It has a well-preserved centre, a lakeside promenade to admire and the panoramic and imposing Church of Santa Maria del Sasso to visit.

The Scherrer Park completes the range of parks on this itinerary. To best admire the region, a boat trip from Lugano is recommended. (from April to October).
