LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura

LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura is the City of Lugano’s cultural centre devoted to the stage and visual arts as well as to music. LAC first opened its doors in 2015 and quickly managed to win the attention of both the public and sector professionals thanks to its vibrant activity and strong productive drive. Looking out onto the lake, the LAC’s stunning architecture, designed by Ticinese Ivano Gianola, has given the city a new face. LAC has a rich and diverse program with offerings in classical and modern music, exhibitions and events, theatre and dance performances, both traditional and contemporary which are also accompanied by a lively schedule of meetings, discussion panels and activities for the family.

A feat of acoustic engineering, the nearly thousand-seat concert and theatre hall is the venue for programs curated by the LAC’s artistic management and whose offering varies between traditional theatre, contemporary performances, both from Switzerland and abroad, world famous dance ensembles, concerts and musicals, virtuous collaborations with local artists. The LAC’s hall features prestigious seasons of classical and contemporary music, curated by LuganoMusica and the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (resident orchestra); it also supports and is the home of the Compagnia Finzi Pasca which is the resident theatre company.

The LAC completes its mission by being the site of the Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI Lugano), which is the product of a merger between the Museo cantonale d’Arte and the Museo d’Arte della Città di Lugano. On its three exhibition floors visitors may view the MASI’s own collections as well as temporary exhibitions organized in cooperation with private collections or in synergy with prestigious museum institutions.

The packed calendar of multidisciplinary activities organized as part of the cultural mediation program of LAC edu – often with free admission – adds value to the programming, involving the community and young people.
