Buchmann Galerie was founded in 1975 by Elena and Felix Buchmann, St.Gallen, Switzerland began representing, in the first years, Swiss artists such as Dieter Roth). In 1995, André Buchmann founded the Buchmann Galerie, Germany, where it still stands today in the center of Berlin, since 2005.
From 1983 to 1998 the Swiss gallery was based in the city of Basel, near the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, began working with many of its international artists (from an early point in their career) like Tony Cragg, Wolfgang Laib, Mario Merz, Tatsuo Miyajima and Lawrence Carroll.
The gallery found a new home in the Italian Canton Ticino, specifically Agra/Lugano in 1998 running an exhibition space dedicated mostly to presenting sculptures until the end of 2020. Artists included in the aforementioned exhibitions include: Hans Josephson, Marisa Merz, Felice Varini and Martin Disler.
In 2013 a new gallery space opened in the center of Lugano, at Via della Posta, next to the MASI - Palazzo Reali museum. The exhibitions explore sculptural works, paintings and installations, by Daniel Buren, Alberto Garutti, Alex Dorici, Livio Bernasconi and various other artists represented by the gallery.
