Lugano Classic

Lugano Classic is an event that, since 2012, has united the passion for vintage vehicles with the beauty of a region rich in excellences that deserve to be known and enhanced.

The event is held over two days and takes place in the centre of Lugano, which becomes an open-air museum of works of art in motion, before winding its way along picturesque Ticino routes on Sunday morning.

The level reached in 2023 by Lugano Classic, both in terms of cars present and in terms of collectors and enthusiasts, has raised the bar even higher for an event that, although young, has been able to make a name for itself right from the start and that today concentrates more than 100 crews, many from Italy and beyond, in the squares and streets of the city centre.

Program

Saturday 12 October 2024
Saturday has an aggregative character, aimed at bringing enthusiasts and the curious closer to the most extraordinary models in motoring history. Vintage cars but also special, rare and competition cars, with the possibility of coming into contact with internationally recognised brand clubs and collectors.

Various initiatives are organised throughout the day. To start in style, those who want to visit the exhibition and arrive in a classic vehicle can park for free in Piazza Rezzonico.

In addition, photographer Pietro Rocchi will hold a free short course on how to photograph cars. This will be followed by a photo competition open to all with a prize awarded by a special jury. The public and participants will also be able to vote for their favourite car, which will receive a plaque offered by Massimo Basile, publisher of Celebre Magazine.

There will then be guided tours of the city's secrets, a race with professional simulators in the courtyard of the Town Hall, DJ Walter in Piazza Manzoni, while a welcome from the authorities will precede the aperitif and lunch.

The main event will take place in the early afternoon in the town hall: a conference on the history of the Swiss car brand Monteverdi with an exhibition of various cars and a lecture on the history of the founder and the brand, presented together with our main sponsor Julius Bär.

All award ceremonies will take place at 6 p.m. on the patio of the Town Hall and will be followed by an aperitif offered to the participants. Afterwards, a special dinner will be organised for the participants, who will be able to leave their cars parked on the square.

On Sunday Lugano Classic will be pointing the cars' headlights on the picturesque wonders of the Canton! The numerous registered cars will parade through the most characteristic villages in Ticino, on a very evocative and technical route along which participants will be able to make their engines sing.

After breakfast in Piazza Riforma and the briefing, the crews will set off, following the indications in our renowned road-book, for a scenic tour full of surprises that starts from the lakeside and this year, after a few tests of skill and precision and a tasty aperitif, will return to the centre of Lugano, where lunch and the prize-giving ceremony with prestigious prizes will take place: the first classified in the morning trials will receive a prestigious watch offered by Marco Longhi of Cuervo y Sobrinos.
