Comfortably seated in a funicular railway carriage, you’ll quickly reach the summit of Monte San Salvatore, nicknamed “the top of Lugano” or “Pan di Zucchero”, maybe inspired by Rio’s Sugarloaf and its superb view. Continue to Carona, a picturesque village embellished with the beautiful San Grato park. After this first stage of the excursion you have two options. The shorter one takes you to Madonna d’Ongero Sanctuary whilst the more challenging route leads to Alpe Vicania and Morcote Castle. Regardless of which option you choose, you’ll end up in Morcote, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful villages.
