Cogwheel railway Monte Generoso

For over 130 years, the cogwheel railway has been running along a 9 km stretch of the picturesque mountain scenery of the Monte Generoso Natural Park, from Capolago on Lake Lugano to the peak at an altitude of 1704 m. Enjoy some spectacular views! Monte Generoso is the main panoramic summit in Ticino and is one of the most fascinating areas of Switzerland.


Fossil Museum of the Monte San Giorgio

Remodeled and expanded by the Ticinese architect Mario Botta, the Fossil Museum in Meride exhibits a selection of fossilized animals and plants from the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site of Monte San Giorgio.


Locarno Film Festival

Locarno Film Festival is the most significant cinematographic event in Switzerland and among the most important in Europe. Numerous are the movies presented in four different sections: Concorso internazionale, Concorso Cineasti del presente and the sections Pardi di domani (national and international).

The Tremola Road

The Tremola is the longest road monument in Switzerland. It snakes up as a light-coloured ribbon from Airolo to the Gotthardpass. Enjoy impressive views of the road on the mule track from the pass into the Upper Leventina.

Valle Verzasca – the Ticino’s green heart

Idyllically nestled in an imposing mountainscape, the Valle Verzasca (Verzasca valley) is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and relaxing in nature. Forming the heart of the valley is the emerald-green Verzasca river with its polished gorges and deep pools made for summer bathing. Not for nothing are some of the bathing places here called the “Maldives of Switzerland”.
