Ever since 1908, a cable railway has brought visitors, in a quarter of an hour, from Cassarate to Mount Bré (933metres above sea level), a locality offering many opportunities to the visitor: a big, well equipped picnic area, where it is possible to grill food, walks that are accessible to families even with small children and more difficult mountain hikes.
The village of Bré has kept intact its characteristic of ancient rural village, and in time, numerous artworks have also embellished it. You will find the works by Pasquale Gilardi, also called Lelèn, the frescoes by Joseph Birò in the Church of San Fedele, the Schmid Museum with the works, which the artist left, together with his home, to his Municipality of adoption and an open air museum consisting in the works of Aligu Sassu, Armando Losa, Emilio Rissone, Giuliano Togni, Giancarlo Tamagni, Piergiorgio Piffaretti and others.
Of course, there are also restaurants, tiny and large grotti with panoramic terraces that offer a bird’s eye view of the Lake of Lugano and of its surrounding mountains.
The Vetta Restaurant, that has the possibility of welcoming up to 220 people (about 45 inside and 175 outside) has been completely refurbished. Both the establishment’s interior and terrace are now totally renewed thanks to a functional and simple design, which has also been inspired by comfort and relaxation criteria Much attention was also focused on the green area surrounding the restaurant and the main access road that winds up to the restaurant from the central square of Brè village. Thank to all these works, the Vetta Restaurant has recovered much of its ancient splendour and will charm anyone who wishes to relax on its extremely suggestive panoramic terrace, enjoying the breathtaking view of the Lugano gulf and getting a taste of its local and international specialties.
Just outstide the cable car’s exit, the Osteria Funicolare is the ideal place to pick up a quick snack on its cool terrace and to get a taste of the local products. We invite you to take a look at the transportation plus lunch offers. Brè village, with its several restaurants and grotti, offers you a further choice of places where to eat.
