Nordic walking requires the use of poles to help propel you along and was invented for the purpose of training cross country skiing athletes during the summer period when there is no snow. Of course walkers can go anywhere when there’s no snow. The great benefit of the activity is that it is twice as effective as ordinary walking: by using poles upper body muscles are used as well as legs, and yet they make motion feel easier because of the support given by the poles.
