Lugano gravel bike tour – Stage 1: Ponte Tresa – Miglieglia

Discovering Malcantone, a gently undulating hilly landscape with dense vegetation.

Welcome to Lugano! Transfer from Lugano station to Ponte Tresa on the FLP train. Riding your bike you proceed on asphalt to Monte Mondini, then from Pura you continue through the woods along a dirt road followed by a single trail. From Curio you descend to Madonna del Piano, passing through some characteristic villages with vineyards. You climb up to Sessa, alternating between dirt and asphalt roads through woods and pastures. The route continues to Astano along a varied route, singletrack, dirt and asphalt roads, always in wooded or pastureland areas. Between Beredino-La Costa is the gold mine, where reservations must be made in advance for a visit. Astano offers a small lake and an intriguing core. The road continues without any major differences in altitude to Novaggio, where you descend and then ascend to Miglieglia along a dirt road through the forest. Miglieglia is a very quaint village from where the cable car in the direction of Monte Lema starts, offering a 360° view as far as Italy and the Valais mountain chain, not to be missed!
