Canobbio is defined as the balcony over Lugano, situated on a promontory just two kilometers from the city.
Despite the proximity, it maintains its own identity thanks to a lively community with numerous associations, public meeting places, bars, and restaurants: it has not become a dormitory town. With Piazza Colombaro at the center of the nucleus, a pulsating center of vitality, streets unfold to discover the beauties of the old core, refurbished in the last decade with high-quality paving works. Thanks to this operation, motor traffic has been reduced, promoting slow mobility and prioritizing pedestrians.
For several years Canobbio, through the Artistic Commission, has organized exhibitions in the shop window at the center of the historic core, promoting local artists. A synergy has also developed with the Peccia School of Sculpture, with biennials of exhibitors from Switzerland and Europe. The artworks are exhibited in the squares and alleys of the municipality every two years, from May to October. A municipality attractive for all ages thanks to the offerings of local associations, it is suitable for families, where children still go to school on their own. Numerous moments of community gathering arise, between celebration and cordiality.
In mid-September, all associations come together for the Festa dell’Autunno Canobbiese, an event with more than 30 years of tradition. The Municipality has important projects in the pipeline to improve the municipality’s attractiveness and meet the needs of its citizens.
