Artelier was founded in 1999 in Viganello.

Founded by 7 young students of art, architecture restoration and photography from SUPSI, their passion and dedication towards contemporary art led them to create this independent place of discovery, encouraging experimentation and promoting interaction between artists and the public.

Over the years, Artelier has hosted numerous solo and group exhibitions, offering a space for discovery and experimentation for different contemporary artistic languages.

Its initial premises, located in Viganello, were in an old biros factory, where artists could work and exhibit their works at the same time.

In 2004, Artelier moved to the centre of Lugano, maintaining the same philosophy and characteristics as its previous location.

In the following years, the main activity focused on being a working space for artists, with sporadic exhibitions during the year.

Since 2012, it has become the main atelier of one of its founders, artist Alex Dorici.

By Dorici's own will, Artelier since 2024, returns to being a space mainly dedicated to the presentation of exhibitions and artistic projects.

This return to the roots aims to celebrate Artelier's 25th year of activity.

With its new focus on exhibitions and art projects, Artelier intends to become a reference point for contemporary art in Lugano and the surrounding area, offering a platform for emerging and established artists to explore and share their work with the public.
