Costanza

The site-specific installation Costanza stages an ongoing tension between self-destruction and possible rebirth. Inside Artphilein’s Focus exhibition space, black-and-white photographic collages evoke a world devastated by a power that annihilates humanity, as well as the dramatic condition of the human being reduced to a powerless spectator.

At the center stands the simultaneously fragile and irreducible presence of a newborn child holding up the world. A humble sprout on new, fertile ground, the sculpture, with its purple-red texture, becomes a filter that keeps one last hope alive.

The collages unfold like a flow of frames that echo and oppose one another, with violent contrasts of shadow and light recalling the Baroque dialectic of pain and wonder – necessary to rekindle the attention of a dulled eye to the truth of things.

The metal structure visible from the outside and the hanging fabric depicting the colorful seats of a cinema invite viewers to participate in what is taking place inside the exhibition space, as if in an event in the making, with a narrative that is continuously being composed and renewed.
