The Curio-Castelrotto Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1988, presents itself to the public as it does every year with its traditional Gala Concert. This year, the concert pays tribute to the Mendrisio Civic Philharmonic Orchestra, which is celebrating its centenary. The concert opens with the eponymous march, "Mendrisio," composed by Maestro Mario Cairoli.
The rest of the repertoire ranges from folk music, such as "So schön ist Blasmusik," a schlager song that became famous as the theme song for the Grand Prix der Volksmusik, to Giuseppe Verdi's classic, "La Traviata." The music transcends time and space, and so we return to the 1940s with a bolero composed by Mexican musician Augutin Lara, "Solamente una vez," before moving on to Singapore with the Overture from La Fenice. Of course, we don't forget Switzerland, and with the original piece for band "Eiger," we retrace a dramatic and touching true story of mountaineering linked to the mountain of the same name. The concert concludes on a cheerful note, beginning with a series of Disney soundtracks and culminating with a selection of marches by John Williams, one of the greatest film composers in the history of cinema.
