Admission is free and no booking is required.

The folk music group Panighiröl was founded in 1981 by Giorgio Valli, Mario Canova, Beniamino Gubitosa and Peo Mazza. (Over the years, the band has undergone changes and additions: Tita Leoni, Michela Domenici, Ettore Della Santa, Claudio Rossi, Gabriele Martini, Tonci Levorato, Barbara Cereghetti).

The lyrics, adapted from the folk legends of Ticino, are taken from Walter Keller’s book, Racconti Ticinesi, dating from the early 1900s, which was found in the attic by Beniamino Gubitosa. After selecting the most distinctive legends, the four musicians set them to music, creating the first fifteen tracks, and following years of concerts, these were recorded on the album Panighiröl-Leggende Ticinesi.

The work features legends from the valleys of Ticino, passed down orally or through collections and books such as Il Meraviglioso. Dating back to the Middle Ages, these legends tell stories of farmers, trades, bears and goblins, bearing witness to the hardships of mountain life and a love of nature and its mysteries.

The music, influenced by the 1970s, reflects the style of folk music using simple instruments such as the mandolin, flute, vocals and guitars. Panighiröl create a harmonious and clear sound, combining years of acoustic music to accompany legends which, in their wisdom and longevity, still have much to teach us.

The current line-up comprises Peo Mazza (guitar, percussion, vocals), Valentina Londino (vocals, percussion), Sara Magon (guitars, mandolin, vocals) and Christian Gilardi (flutes, vocals).
