A boy, Giovannino, sets out into the world.

He does not really know where he is going or what he is looking for. But he keeps walking, meeting people, losing things, learning along the way. And without even noticing it, he grows up.

Giovannino and What He Will Become is a coming-of-age theatrical fairy tale, freely inspired by the traditional story The Body Without a Soul, reworked by Italo Calvino, and transformed here into a personal and symbolic narrative that speaks to children about the world they live in. It is a journey filled with objects that come to life, obstacles that turn into opportunities, and encounters that change the way we see the world.

The performance grew out of Alessandro Calabrese’s research into object theatre, developed from his experience creating the production ABC del Natale.

On stage, everyday objects, mechanisms, and materials become symbols and characters within the story, conveying worlds and emotions with lightness, humour, and poetry.

The relationship with the audience is intimate and close: the performance space is small, and the audience sits near the actor, almost inside the story itself.

A performance created for children who are growing up and learning to understand the world through stories. Every object on stage opens up a possibility; every encounter leaves a mark.

A simple and direct tale that invites audiences to set out on the journey alongside Giovannino, with curiosity and an open mind.
