CaronAntica hosts the Les Basses Réunies ensemble and their conductor Bruno Cocset, Professor at the Haute École de Musique de Genève and the Paris Conservatory, for a truly unique program titled “The Birth of the Cello”. This program traces the development and history of this marvelous instrument through a sequence of virtuosic yet deeply vocal repertoires composed throughout Europe over the centuries.

The cello is celebrated through the narration of songs and sonatas, its musical eloquence, articulation, and the colors of dynamics and timbre.

The imitation of the human voice has long been considered a model for making the instrument “sing,” a concept championed by countless treatises and composers since the 16th century. This is exactly what Les Basses Réunies promotes in this boundless exploration of the deep strings in all their forms.
