For the Spring concerts this year we have chosen to focus on the early twentieth century in Italy and Germany, two important cultural centers that contributed to the development of mandolin orchestras as we know them today.
In Germany, Ambrosius was among the main pioneers of the mandolin movement, which remains vibrant today, with numerous composers, orchestras and dedicated festivals.
In Italy, the birth country of the mandolin in its modern form originated in Naples in the nineteenth century, enthusiasm for the instrument led during that period to a lively flourishing of composers.
The program features works by Munier, a virtuoso mandolinist who shared the stages with Calace, as well as by two composers who are rarely performed today but are fundamental to the history of the instrument: Amedeo Amadei and Emanuele Mandelli.
This year’s guest artist is Andrea Pace, who together with our guitarist forms the Duo Pace Poli Cappelli, a prestigious ensemble known and acclaimed internationally.
