Giro lungolago Agno – Caslano

Hiking Trail

This obstacle-free trail leads from Agno along the scenic shores of Lake Lugano to Caslano. With Monte Caslano always in plain sight, you walk between green hills and the tranquil lakeshore. The lively piazza of Caslano is the perfect place to end the tour.

The route begins in the Ticino village of Agno, the gateway to the Malcantone region. The gently rolling hills stretching from the shores of Lake Lugano up to Monte Lema are lined with ancient chestnut forests, narrow mountain roads and carpets of ferns. The path loops from Agno railway station through the beautifully designed town park. Numerous seating areas invite you to linger while your gaze wanders over the deep blue Lake Lugano and into the wooded hills.

After crossing the river, you reach the Lido di Agno lakeside beach and stroll along the lakeshore over a wide wooden footbridge – the views of the surrounding villages are magnificent. The path continues along the lakeside promenade to Magliaso. The small community developed below the church of San Quirico along the old Varese – Ponte Tresa – Monte Ceneri connecting road. There used to be numerous farms and mills in Magliaso along the irrigation canal, a typical feature of the pre-industrial economy. The ruins of San Giorgio castle, built in the Middle Ages, tower above the village.

The route leads through the residential area, over the Magliasina river and along the golf course to Caslano. It's well worth taking a break and enjoying "La Dolce Vita" on the piazza directly on the lakeshore. Through the beautiful, colourful alleys of the old village centre, you make your way towards the railway station.
