Towards Monte Bar

Hiking Trail

Cross charming villages, woods, and alpine pastures and come across a Scottish cow farm. You will enjoy magnificent views and savor local specialties. The Monte Bar hike offers sunny and warm walks. If you imagine Lugano and its valleys as an amphitheater, Monte Bar is the most exclusive spot. Enjoy it, it is there for you.

Imagine the Lugano area and its valleys as an amphitheater: Monte Bar would be the most exclusive spot. From Lugano, with your back to the lake and the valleys, you can see Monte Bar (1816 m) from afar. The route we propose starts from the village of Bogno, at the top of Val Colla, and climbs through a wooded area and comfortable dirt roads up to Alpe Cottino: known for the breeding of Scottish cows. After a short break, you continue to the San Lucio Hut, located on the slopes of Gazzirola, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view beyond the horizon of Val Colla and Val Cavargna. You will also have the opportunity to taste refined local products, refresh yourself, and relax. The path, fully exposed to the sun, continues towards Alpe Pietrarossa for another stop or to buy delicious local cheeses. Refreshed, you continue, passing through Piandanazzo, to the Monte Bar Hut. The hut is located in the splendid setting that dominates to the northeast the pre-Alpine chain that extends from Monte Bre to Monte Boglia, Denti della Vecchia, Paiolo, San Lucio Pass, and Monte Gazzirola. To the south are Lake Ceresio and the city of Lugano in all its extent. To the west, Monte Rosa appears and, on very clear days, the Bernese Alps chain. The trip then ends with the descent, passing through Alpe Musgatina, towards the locality of Corticiasca. From here, returning by public transport is recommended.
