Founded in 1535 as the first Swiss seat of the Franciscan Friars. Enlarged and transformed during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Monastic Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, consecrated in 1577. Rectangular construction with choir, in the core possibly dating back to the 16th century; the lunetted barrel vault on the three bays and the ribbed vault on the choir were set up in the 18th or 19th century. On the Rococo wooden altar: Renaissance altarpiece of high artistic quality depicting the Madonna against a landscape background, gift of the royal house of Savoy to the Capuchins in the second quarter of the 16th century and presumably the work of a Flemish artist.
