The Kromya Art Gallery inaugurated its headquarters in Lugano in May 2018 with the intention of extending the concept of exhibition space into a veritable city lounge.
The spaces are split into two sections, one referred to as “Rooms” and the other as “• YOUNG”. The first focuses on affirmed artists, particularly from the abstract movements of the ‘70s and onwards. The second, instead, centres on emerging young artists, whom the gallery sets out to accompany on their artistic and exhibition journey.
Kromya has already organised four exhibitions in the “Rooms” section, inaugurating the gallery with “Le Geometrie della Luce”, a collective show dedicated to three major exponents of Op Art such as Alberto Biasi, Hugo Demarco and Francisco Sobrino, followed by “Instabili Dimore dello Sguardo”, a double solo exhibition by Paolo Radi and Emanuela Fiorelli, “Materie Analitiche #1”, a review of the protagonists of Italy’s Fundamental Painting – Pino Pinelli, Claudio Olivieri, Elio Marchegiani, Giorgio Griffa and Enzo Cacciola – and “Caran d’Ache”, a solo of the artist Giovanni Frangi at his first exhibition in Lugano. The “• YOUNG” section will open in late May 2019 with a site-specific project by Andreas Waldmeier, an artist from Zurich who will transform the gallery into a full pictorial environment.
In addition to participating in various national and international art fairs, the gallery also hosts artistic and cultural events such as book presentations, interviews with artists and meetings with non-profit organisations.
