The Kantonsschule Zürich Nord (KZN) Big Band is one of the most dynamic, highly regarded, and active school music ensembles in the Zurich educational landscape. It stands as the pride of the school—located in the Zürich-Oerlikon district—when it comes to practical and ensemble music education.
The band is composed of high school students from various academic tracks—including specialized music programs and other streams—all united by a passion for jazz, swing, and modern music. It is led and conducted by the school’s music teachers—often professional musicians active on the Swiss jazz scene—who impart not only ensemble techniques but also an approach to improvisation. The KZN Big Band’s repertoire is extremely diverse, designed both to train young musicians and to get the audience dancing and having a great time. It spans various genres, including classic Swing, Latin Jazz, Funk, and Pop and Rock arrangements.
