Orchestra Arcadia is delighted to announce its three forthcoming concerts for the 2027 winter season. Conducted by Maestro Piotr Nikiforoff, the Orchestra will present a programme rich in colour and sonority. The musical journey opens with the sparkling melodies of Rossini’s opera before moving to the lyrical, Bellinian themes that inspired the virtuoso double bassist Giovanni Bottesini in his Duo concertante, featuring soloists Sandro Meszaros on cello and Erick Martinez on double bass in a deeply expressive performance that brings together lyricism and virtuosity. The second half of the concert is devoted to two masterpieces that call upon the full forces of the orchestra: Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in which the composer sought to ‘paint’ the works of an exhibition through the language of music, giving free rein to his extraordinary expressive imagination; and Ravel’s Boléro, a Spanish-inspired dance in which an insistent rhythmic motif underpins a succession of melodic solos, bringing each instrument’s distinctive colour to the fore as the orchestra builds towards an ever more powerful and exhilarating crescendo.
Programme:
- Gioachino Rossini: Overture to "L’italiana in Algeri" (1813)
- Giovanni Bottesini: Duo concertante on themes from “I Puritani”, for cello, double bass and orchestra(1845–1855)
- Soloists: Sandro Meszaros and Erick Martinez
- Modest Petrovič Musorgskij: Pictures at an Exhibition (1874), orchestrated by Maurice Ravel
- Maurice Ravel: Boléro (1928)
