Music by Claudio Monteverdi and Luca Marenzio

On Sunday 3 November at 8.30 p.m. at the Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano, the 2024/2025 Season of I Barocchisti will officially begin, dedicated this year to Bach and Monteverdi, with an unmissable appointment featuring Luca Pianca.

At the head of his Claudiana Ensemble, the Ticino musician, Swiss music prize-winner and acknowledged world specialist of the madrigal, will appear at the Auditorio Stelio Molo with a concert dedicated to Monteverdi and Marenzio.

‘The very early 17th century is a very high season as far as vocal music is concerned. The art of the polyphonic madrigal is taken to its expressive limit and at the same time the so-called ‘second practice’ explodes, which puts the solo singer centre stage. From the rarefied sonorities of multi-part singing, we move on to the theatrical expression of the ‘affections’, with all its emotional load. Our programme presents both aspects at the same time, which will not fail to amaze and fascinate the listener, with its interplay of light and shade, dynamic contrasts and compositional wisdom.’ (Luca Pianca)
