Visit Carona and the scenic San Grato Park as well as the Pian Càsoro, a protected area. The mouth represents a special natural environment, there is a biotope.


San Salvatore – Carona

Proposal to reach the southern slope of this intriguing and varied peninsula, at the foot of Monte Tamaro, but on the opposite side of town. You initially descend from the summit along a path that winds pleasantly through the forest.

The intermediate stop at Ciona has a grotto and there is a PostBus stop there, which connects both Lugano and Carona. From here a dirt road through the forest leads to the characteristic Carona, which has an intact charm in its centre.

Carona – Parco San Grato – Carona

A 15-minute walk from Carona there is the possibility of visiting the scenic Parco San Grato with its many attractions, altogether an extra hour's hike worthwhile.

Carona – Figino

Retrace your steps back in the direction of Carona, where at the swimming pool you take a dirt road to Torello. Before arriving at this place characterised by the Church of S.Maria Assunta di Torello, with a splendid view of the lake, which was originally part of the adjacent Augustinian monastery suppressed in 1'389., you pass by the Sanctuary of the Madonna d'Ongero, which offers a panoramic view of the Collina d'Oro. From Torello, one continues along the steeper section to Figino.

With a surface area of 56,300 m², the Pian Càsoro - located between Figino and the nucleus of Càsoro - is a popular lakeside recreation area, ideal for bathing and leisure activities. The Pian Càsoro is a protected area. The mouth represents a special natural environment. It is home to a biotope listed in the Inventory of Amphibian Reproduction Sites and federally protected. Many species of frogs and toads live and breed in the pond, some of them endangered.
