If you like the idea of combining the discovery of ancient Alpine pastures with a 360° scenic landscape, the path linking Arosio to Mugena via Monte Ferraro and the Agario pass is just the ticket!
Along the way you’ll come across buildings used by Alpine farmers, some of which are still in use. Discover a picture perfect landscape where rivers and brooks flow through forests of chestnut, birch, beech and pine trees against an awe-inspiring backdrop.
From the trail-head at Arosio, enter the woods in the direction of Monte Ferraro; from the summit you can admire fabulous 360° views. Once you get to La Bassa, the path leads to ancient alpine pastures; continue to Agario Pass to reach the mountain hut with the same name, a place which allows you to gaze over the Alps in the Canton Valais.
The last alpine pasture on the route is at Alpe di Coransù. From here on, the route unfolds on a convenient tarmacked road that takes you to the Molino area where chestnuts abound. This area also features a typical “grà,” a small building where chestnuts were once dried. In this area you’ll find Ponte Busgnone Farm, an ideal destination for stocking up on the produced locally cheese. A little further downstream, the path comes to an end next to a well-equipped picnic spot on the banks of the Magliasina river.
