Lugano & Capriasca Scenic Trail

Trail Running

A breathtaking and highly panoramic trail run along the ridgelines of the Lugano region, offering outstanding scenery and distinctive viewpoints.

The route follows a coherent line, linking the ridges that rise from Tesserete and lead to Monte Brè, high above Lugano. Original route: 54 km with 3,900 metres of elevation gain.

The run begins in Tesserete, a charming village close to Lugano, and follows ancient tracks leading to alpine pastures where communities once lived from traditional pastoral farming, raising cows and goats. A Capuchin monastery dating back to 1535, together with farms, mountain huts and small alpine hamlets, completes this idyllic landscape.

The defining feature of this panoramic route is its course along the predominantly grassy ridgelines of the natural amphitheatre that surrounds the region. Throughout the run, it is often possible to see both the sections already covered and those still ahead. The contrast is particularly striking between the northern views towards Locarno and Bellinzona, dominated by rugged, sharply contoured mountain peaks, and the southern panorama, characterised by Lake Lugano (Ceresio), Lake Como (Lario) and gently undulating, wooded hills.

The entire route is fully waymarked with permanent signage: white signposts displaying the trail runner symbol on a green background. Nevertheless, for safety reasons, runners are advised to carry a map of the route.
