Malcantone Mining Park Trail

Nature Trail

The Malcantone Mining Park Trail allows visitors to discover a part of the mining history of this region.

The evidence that can be found along this route confirms that exploitation of underground mineral resources began at least 2,000 years ago by the Celtic peoples who dwelt in these hills.

The first leg of the trail starts at the Sessa Gold Mine where one can relive the experience of the miners of the last two centuries. It then continues into Valle della Lisora where there are the remains of an open-cast mine from the Celto-Roman era, known as the gold mine, and, passing through the historic villages of Bombinasco and Astano with its small lake, we reach the Bolle mines. Besides the mining sites and historical settlements, other remains can be seen, including a mill, vestiges of Celtic places of worship and small natural habitats. The route also offers the possibility of dining and bathing in the little Astano lake, all in a picturesque pre-Alpine hilly landscape.
